The Quorum Group |
Annually, since 1992, The Quorum Group conducts a compensation & benefits survey throughout the State of Texas. The survey provides businesses timely and accurate compensation data for selected positions throughout Texas. Participation is available to all companies. This confidential survey collects data as of May 1, and is scheduled for publication in early September.
Participation is easy. Each participating company matches their positions to the respective Survey job descriptions, noting the level of match in job content and provides salary and other pay related information for each job.
The survey provides:
The Texas Survey reports on 207 jobs across the state, including: 77 Hourly, 54 Non-Exempt and 76 Exempt.

The survey contains summary data for each position. The lowest, average, highest and median pay as well as the 25th and 75th percentiles. The number of collective bargaining units and the number of companies that pay bonuses/incentives are also reported for each job.
Use of this Survey helps businesses determine the appropriateness of compensation & benefits programs. It enables them to:
Data is summarized and compared for three separate regions and based upon company size: Regional results are summarized for:
The Survey also contains the summary analysis on CD-ROM (Excel).
Each participating company receives their own individual analysis. Scattergram and regression analysis are provided for each employee group (Exempt, Non-Exempt and Hourly). Quorum provides each participating company with scattergrams which visually displays the base pay practice for the positions matched plotted in accordance with the size of the job. The X-axis (horizontal) displays the size of the job as determined by the total PES points (assigned by Quorum). The Y-axis (vertical) displays the annual base salary dollars. For each position matched by the participating company, a "+" is plotted at the coordinates of that position's base salary versus that position's job content - the total PES points.
Quorum then superimposes a line which represents the actual pay practice for that employee group. The line is a statistically computed least-squares-regression line. This regression line is sometimes referred to as the "line of central tendency" or the "line of best fit." A summary table is also provided which shows the pertinent data and the relationship of the base pay for each job matched to the regression line.
The scattergram and regression analysis is a valuable tool for determining potential internal equity issues. A vertical comparison at selected job content levels shows the range of salary practices for "comparable" size jobs. A horizontal comparison at selected pay levels shows the various size jobs that are paid similarly. The analysis is also useful in comparing the overall pay practice of the company to the external market place. Community scattergrams are provided for each of the 3 Regions and the State.
The following Graph from the 2005 Survey shows the community pay practice for the Dallas/Fort Worth Region for the Hourly positions in the survey. Each participating company can "overlay" their individual results on the Graph to obtain a quick visual analysis of their Hourly practice in comparison to the Dallas/Fort Worth Region.
